Recko will present his latest book: The Colfax County War: Violence and Corruption in Territorial New Mexico
This gripping true history begins with the assassination of Reverend F.J. Tolby on September 14, 1875, an event that ignited the violent conflict now known as the Colfax County War. Recko explores the battles over the massive Maxwell Land Grant, the rise of corruption tied to the infamous Santa Fe Ring, and the lawlessness that rocked communities like Cimarron.
From barroom gunfights, lynchings, and political schemes to a territorial governor accused of plotting mass executions, Recko uncovers how violence spiraled until the federal government finally intervened, sending investigator Frank W. Angel to expose the corruption that plagued New Mexico.
